Sand Sculptor at Work

The 33rd Annual American Sand Sculpting Championship starts next Friday, November 22, 2019 and runs through Sunday, December 1. Fort Myers Beach, Florida hosts this festival every year. Those living in and visiting our area have a great opportunity to witness the marvels created by the many talented sand sculptors.

Preparations are Underway

On our bike ride from our Beach Delight vacation rental to the southern end of Fort Myers Beach Estero Island, Andy and I decided to stop in at Pinchers for lunch. While there we could see activity on the beach. It was the preparation work for the upcoming Sand Sculpting Championship.

In past years we’ve ridden our bikes down to see the finished sculptures. This is the first time we were there before the festival and got to see some of the set up involved.

What to Expect?

Sand sculptors where actively working in one area with massive sand piles. It’s evident that the theme of this area is the four seasons of the year. Multiple artists worked on each of these season-themed sand designs.

By Friday, the fence surrounding the sculpture area will be covered to prevent those who don’t pay from seeing in. Vendors will have booths surrounding the fenced area and inside as well. I expect that kids’ activities will be added inside the fenced area as they’ve done in the past

Hopefully, Andy and I will make it back down to the southern end of the Island during the festival to see the finished transition from piles of sand to works of art.
