Living at Donora House
Our 3-bedroom, 2 bath canal-front home in a family neighborhood has the work-from-home traveler in mind. Donora House has WIFI and an Ethernet switch should you want to connect with Ethernet wire. Two of the bedrooms have desks and chairs. Plus another desk is available in the home’s wide foyer. We offer a Brother Air Printer for your use as well.
Each bedroom has a comfortable queen-size bed with convenient bedside tables. The master bedroom has a large walk-in closet and an en suite bath.
Prepare meals in the updated kitchen or use the grill outside. You can enjoy your meals indoors at the large dining table, at the bistro table in the Florida room in additional to our outdoor dining areas in the screened lanai and at the outdoor patio table.
This home is Echo Dot-enabled. Just ask Alexa to turn on the TV, turn lights on and off, or speed up or slow down the ceiling fan! We provide the cheat sheet. Before you know it, you’ll be controlling everything just using your voice!
Have family ping pong competitions in the converted garage. That’s where you’ll find the clothes washer and dryer too. There’s plenty of space to store your bikes and other recreation items you may bring with you.
Around Fort Myers Beach
If you just want to hang out at the Donora House, you may want to sit on the dock and watch for the schools of fish and dolphin that swim up our way. If you feel it’s a beach day, just load up the beach wagon with your chairs, towels, umbrella and cooler and wheel over to the beach access. It will take you less than 10 minutes to walk there. If you bring some funds or a credit card, you can treat yourself at Junkanoo Restaurant or rent a jet ski too!
If you want to head to Times Square, you can stroll the sandy beach there. Looking to stay off the sand? You’ll find sidewalks all the way to Times Square. During peak season, catch the free open-air tram by the Town library (about a 15 minute walk from the Donora House) to take you all the way to Bowditch Point Park at the northernmost end of our island town. Stroll the park and then take the tram back to Times Square to grab dinner.
You can get around on bicycles on our island. But please use extreme caution. There aren’t bicycle lanes the whole length of the island which means you’re likely to share the sidewalk with pedestrians in some places. However, that won’t be an issue if you want to head to our Island Publix grocery store. You may find taking that bike lane is the fastest way to and from the grocery store during peak times of day.
Fort Myers Beach does require bicycles be outfitted with an audible device, and front and back lights for night-time riding. I would suggest not riding bikes after dark on our island. But still plan to have your bike fully outfitted in case the need arises.
Not Too Far Away
While you’re calling Donora House your home base, you’ll want to plan excursions to:
- Lovers Key State Park (bring bikes, rent kayaks, walk trails, enjoy the beach)
- Sanibel Island (rent bikes there, go shelling on the beaches, dine some place new)
- Naples (explore Naples Beach Pier and shop and dine on 5th Ave)
- The Everglades for an airboat tour!
You may want to boat down to the Florida Keys on the Key West Express that leaves from our neighboring island, San Carlos Island. The boat returns in the evening, but maybe you’ll choose to stay in the Keys one night to get the full experience.
Property Notes
We (your landlords) store our jet skis on the lift at Donora House. Feel free to use the dock for leisure or to lower and retrieve your kayaks into the canal. On occasion, we will contact you to let you know our intentions to enter the property (outside) to access the jet skis for our use.
The Donora House is a canal-front home with open access to the canal and visibility to all the other homes on the canal in our area. Though not a widely public thoroughfare, please note that there is no private seclusion in the canal-side backyard.
