American Sandsculpting Championship
The 31st Annual Sandsculpting Championship is underway in Fort Myers Beach this week. We walked the 3.5 miles to the contest area at the southern end of Estero Island. We were getting our metabolism going in preparation for our Thanksgiving meal later in the afternoon. Our feet are a little tender not having walked 7 miles in a very long while. Perhaps we should have ridden our bikes instead!

What you’ll find
The area is fenced and blocked as the sponsors intend to collect entrance fees However, we arrived before open hours anyway. Plus both Andy and I are tall allowing us the advantage of peeking through as we walked around the area. There are lots of vendors selling their wares both inside and around the sand sculpture area. We also noticed a large inflated pool with beach balls that must have each been 5′ in diameter as well as a mini carousel for the kids to play on. They also had a large sand pit with implements for the kids to have fun.
We also watched some sculptors working on their projects.

Show Me Some Sculptures
There were quite a few sand piles that hadn’t even been addressed yet. But many were complete or underway.

There were even some tiny sculptures on display.

Inspiring beach-goers
On our walk, we passed many sculptures created by amateurs. But this one of Poseidon made us wonder how long this craftsperson has been sculpting.

Andy and I tried to take a selfie with Poseidon, but my arms are not long enough!
