Dining in the Sky
Take the elevator to the 6th floor at the Lani Kai in Fort Myers Beach, Florida and you’ll be at the Sun Deck Restaurant. They’re open for breakfast, but I’m not one to get up early enough to enjoy breakfast away from home. Let me share my lunch and dinner experiences with you.
Not only will you have a fantastic view of the Gulf while you munch, you could swing at the same time! From our experience, no one tends to make use of the swinging capability, but it’s fun just the same. There is inside seating at the bar or tables, but I prefer to eat outside on this rooftop deck. Most of the outside swing seating has a view of the Gulf, some with full view and some not. You’ll also find stationary seating on the deck but without a view of anything other than your neighbors and the sky. Plus you’ll probably get pretty toasty sitting in the full sun. All of the swings have canopies offering you a chance of shade.
Sun Deck Menu
There are plenty less-than-healthy options to choose from on the menu. Some might use friendlier words to describe what’s on the menu – like “comfort food”. You might as well order your favorite cocktail and fully enjoy the tastes, sights and sounds of your rooftop meal.
This first dish I’ll try at any restaurant is Fish Tacos. The Sun Deck offers a wonderfully seasoned blackened fish taco served with rice and beans. This is the meal that I’ll go back to the Sun Deck to enjoy over and over again.
My new favorite appetizer is Boom Boom Shrimp. I would never have thought to order it, but went with someone who did. The heat was a little too much for my friend, but I thought it was just right! Chicken wings are a favorite with many of those who visit the Sun Deck with me.
We enjoy coconut shrimp so much that I’ve actually learned how to make them at home. I think I’ve perfected the process now, using Ziploc bags to coat the shrimp rather than using a fork to toss the shrimp in a bowl. So much faster. (Look for a future blog where I explain how I make perfect coconut shrimp at home.) But when you don’t have time for that, visiting the Sun Deck is another option. I prefer the taste of sweet chili sauce with my coconut shrimp. I’ll have to ask if they have any next time.
The Sundeck’s pizza isn’t extraordinarily special. But if you have a hankering, it will do. A friend ordered the Seafood Taco Salad and enjoyed it. I may try that on another visit.
You can find the Sun Deck restaurant at 1400 Estero Blvd, Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Just an 11-minute walk from our Beach Delight vacation rental. Enjoy your stroll on the beach or on the sidewalk.
